In a slump?
Coach PortlandI’ll help you focus, feel better, and get moving again.
Your best life.
Your best life is an imperfect life. Why? Because perfection is a slippery fish. You’ll never catch it. If you stay on this course, you will waste your time and your talent and end up bitter and disappointed. Whether it’s the perfect job or the perfect relationship or the perfect moment, your image of perfection will forever slip through your fingers. It’s maddening! But it’s also addictive. Oh! You almost had it there. Oops! Got away again. And while you keep trying to catch perfection, your boundaries wobble and your habits go unattended. Better to build a full and imperfect life than to keep chasing after that perfect one — the one that keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into a future which never comes.
Perfectly imperfect.
Am I asking you not to dream? Not at all. By all means, dream! What I am saying is go ahead and dream, and when you catch a glimmer of what you want, grab that Glimmer! We can work with that. And if you feel a little silly grabbing a Glimmer, just say, “Puh! I’m going for it! I’m going for my Poem, my Song, my Moment. Is it perfect? No! But it’s real, and calling.” Good. Now, this time, instead of waiting for the Perfect Completeness to arrive fully formed, grab your Glimmer and bring it me. Together, we can do so much more! We will shape your partly formed image into reality. You will be so much happier as we work together to grasp and mold the pieces of your dream into an imperfect reality, which is far better than your ever-elusive perfect dream which never gets built.
One bite at a time.
Hi. I’m Mark Newton. I’m a life coach in Portland, Oregon who specializes in helping you build your perfectly imperfectly life. If you will bring me your Glimmer, I will help you take the next steps to work out the details of making your dreams come true. (It’s what I do!) My particular variety of creativity is nestled deeply within my background as an architect. Architects are a funny bunch: part sculptor, part poet, part engineer. We help you build your dreams. We add structure to your creative genius. Because without structure, your dream will remain forever a slippery fish, slipping through your fingers. But with structure (which grows one step at at time) we will make your impossible dream possible. Probable, even. I’m happy to meet with you one to one, with you and your partner, or with you and your team, in person or over the phone.
Enjoy the results!
“Mark has been an amazing resource for me during a turbulent time in my life. He is specifically not a therapist and that is a great thing. Therapy is important, but in my experience tends not to be action oriented enough. Mark is the opposite; he is laser focused on productive and meaningful action. He’s given me tools and perspective that will last well beyond our time together. If you find yourself stuck in a situation where friends, self-help books, and even therapists are not cutting it, do yourself a favor and reach out to Mark.”
I guarantee your satisfaction.
If we agree to work together, whether here in Portland or over the phone, and you are not completely satisfied with any given session, simply let me know within 24 hours following the session and you will not be charged for that session.
Practically speaking.
We will address the three major hurdles you face as a perfectionist: Anxiety, Depression, and Procrastination. Anxiety is the fear of looking and feeling foolish. Depression is anger turned inward. You get depressed because you care. A lot. But you don’t feel a lot of caring coming back your way. Sometimes, you feel like giving up. Procrastination is an offspring of anxiety and depression. You want things to go perfectly. But they don’t. So you think. And you ponder. And time slips by. Which makes you nervous, and also makes you a little less able to move the needle tomorrow. We will address all three of these major roadblocks to real progress and give you projects to increase your confidence step by step.
Why work with me?
Progress. This is life coaching, not therapy. Which means you’ll get real projects to move you forward. There is a place for therapy, of course. But when you want to make solid, practical progress, coaching is what you’re looking for. Therapy mostly looks at where you’ve been. Coaching takes you where you are, gathers enough of your back story to be relevant, and moves you forward. You will also enjoy the structure and accountability of coaching.
How much does it cost?
The first session is free. We will listen for where your quest for perfection has taken you thus far, talk about ways to move ahead imperfectly, and explore whether we have a fit for life coaching. You will have time to ask any questions you may have about me or about the life coaching process. If we decide to work together, the cost is $250.00 for two business weeks of work, Monday through Friday. For that fee, you receive one thirty-minute session in person or by phone, plus two business weeks of follow up support by text, email, and the occasional follow up phone call.
Where do we meet?
We have several options for meeting.
We can meet inside the studio here, in person, at 1923 NE Broadway in Portland. Or we can walk from here into the quiet, Portland neighborhood nearby (I have umbrellas for rainy days, if we choose that option). We can also meet by phone.
