Why work with me?
That’s a great question.
I work with men who are struggling to move ahead in their professional and personal lives.
That said, you are certainly welcome to any and all of the free resources I offer on this site.
So why pay me to coach you?
It’s pretty simple, really.
Life is short and you have better things to do with your time than try to figure out how to coach yourself.
As your coach, I will quickly help you understand how to get the most out of the resources I have collected and created, so you can get on with your life happier and healthier.
You will get insights immediately that you can use.
The men I work with report an instant energy boost and sense of well-being and new direction.
Together, we will set goals which I will help you attain.
If you’d like to know more, feel free to write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or browse the other pages in this section to understand what the coaching relationship looks like and how to get started.
About Mark Newton
I have had the freedom and privilege to work with many men over the years, helping each man affirm and develop his unique genius. This is not easy to do on your own, because you are too close to our own life.
That’s why I am here to help you.
I have had 5 professional careers:
My first career was as an architect in San Francisco. I dreamed of shaping space that would inspire great things. I loved this work and learned so much from my colleagues about business and design, but ultimately, this was not my calling.
Next, I worked as a construction superintendent in the Bay Area, feeling in some ways more empowered to directly shape the ways that people live. Still, something was missing.
I became a design instructor at an art college in San Francisco, thinking that here, surely, I would be able to shape the minds and habits of those capable of creating beauty. And yes, I had some great times there. But this, too, was not my dream.
I went to seminary and became a pastor and for almost 20 years worked within communities of faith, teaching, inspiring, and encouraging others to shape their lives in ways that brought them freedom and happiness.
And yes, I enjoyed this work immensely, but today I am closer than ever to achieving my dream of helping men find happiness and fulfillment as a men’s career & life coach in Portland, Oregon.
I learned early on in my work as an architect that it takes just as long to design and build a terrible building as it does to create a wonderful, amazing building. The difference between an excellent solution to the problem and a mundane or even terrible solution to the problem is understanding the problem.
Another way to think about this is to get perspective.
Once we get perspective to understand what is actually going on, we can help you get moving again.
Why do I coach men?
Why I Coach:
We need your talent, we need your focus, we need your passion —
There is something that you bring to the world on your best days that we need — but you’re not bringing it right now because you’re pinned down, conflicted.
When you feel pinned down, you become like a cornered dog: desperate.
Henry David Thoreau, in Walden, wrote this: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.”
Get out of that desperate place — do it now before you do something you will really regret. And if something has already happened because of your desperation, don’t go another day in that bad place just because you’re depressed over your situation. I can help you.
This is what drives me to coach: We need you at your best.
I can help you with your situation.
I can help you get perspective and get moving again in a direction to where you are communicating and connecting in ways that bring you success and happiness.
It’s easy to lose perspective.
It’s easy to get stuck and immobile.
And in these situations, when you feel lost and stuck, I know that you have a difficult time asking for help.
I’m not offering you help out of pity.
I hate being pitied, and so do you.
I am offering my services to you.
It’s a fair trade: you pay me, and I coach you to get perspective and get moving again.
We both win.
