Impeachment is a claim against your character. Are you ready?
What is impeachment?
Impeachment does not in itself remove the official from office; it is the equivalent to an indictment in criminal law, and thus is only the statement of charges against the official. — Wikipedia.
And are you impeachable?
So — are you impeachable? Of course you are. Everyone is. Which is why so many people are thinking about it right now. Because it’s obvious to some folks that the president is not doing his job. And others would disagree. But the fact is, most of the country right now is thinking about the issue. And it’s not some foreign concept. Because each of us know at some level that we are not living up to the office to which we have been elected. And remember: impeachment is not necessarily removal from office. Rather, it is a claim against your character. So the question is: how will you stand when accused? Because abuse of one’s office applies not only to the president of the United States. You could be impeached, too.
How will you plead?
So — when you are questioned about how well you are fulfilling your office — whether someone else is asking, or whether you’re asking yourself as you look at your own reflection in the mirror — how will you plead? Guilty or not guilty? And for the answer to that question, let’s look deeper. Because the question behind the question is — are you fulfilling the duties of the office to which you have been elected? Which means, first of all, which “office” are we talking about? Because your office could be father, or husband, or boss. Or a host of other “offices.” In fact, you could pick any one of a number of offices in which you are currently serving. So pick an office, and ask yourself: how do I plead? Impeachable? Impeccable? Or somewhere in between?
Your turn.
Take a good look in the mirror. And then ask: “Am I carrying out the duties of my office with integrity?” If you are — celebrate in some meaningful way. And if not, make time to make a change — before someone else brings it up.
