The cost of procrastination is higher than you might think.
Are you a tramp?
Websters defines a tramp as “a person who travels from place to place on foot in search of work or as a vagrant or beggar.” It’s a noun.
What do tramps do?
Tramps tramp. Literally. They walk from place to place, wandering without any real plan. Why? If you were to ask a tramp, “Why don’t you settle down?” he would probably tell you a story. And if you were to follow that story to it’s root, you would more than likely find something that the tramp is running from. Is this a generalization? Yes. But having talked to many a tramp over the years, I have heard this common theme over and over.
What is the cost of procrastination?
So if you’re following me, I am making a broad generalization which has a point. And the point is that tramps are on the run from something. What are they running from? Overwhelmingly, they are running from a decision. In other words — they are procrastinating. And the cost of procrastination is years on the road, wandering.
What are you running from?
So again I ask you again: are you a tramp? Because if you are — if there is something that you’re running from: some decision or moment of courage that you continue to avoid — maybe it’s time to stop running. Unless you like your life on the road. If you like the life of a tramp, I’m not here to stop you. But if you’d like to stop riding those rails and come inside, please take a moment to ask yourself what you’re running from.
Ask yourself.
So please do this: stop, whereever you are right now, and ask yourself a simple question: what am I running from?
