What is the biggest difference between a really great day and a day when you feel like you’re just slogging through? It’s the story you tell. Want to tell a better story? Here’s how.

story you tell

What story are you telling?

So the first thing to realize is that you actually are telling a story every moment of your life, and that you are living your own story. And that might seem pretty weird to think about. But it’s true. We are story tellers by nature. It’s what makes us human. And it’s also what helps us make sense of it all — by helping us to predict the future, and interpret our past. And here is the cool and tricky part: you can tell your own story in real time.

Keep it real.

Because real time is where you actually live. Think about it. The day that has just past is, well — gone. Forever. And the day you’re about to live tomorrow is a day you may never actually see. But here and now is real. So if you can develop the skill of telling your story in real time, you’ll hit that sweet spot between fantasy and fallacy.

Please do this now.

So please listen to this brief talk (under 20 minutes). Because the speaker will help you understand the power of story. And he will also teach you how to tell a better story about who you are and what you want. And then, after you watch, please come right back for today’s takeaway.

Will you do it?

Because change begins with action.

Take a small step today.

Starting today, tell a better story. And here are the three main takeaways:

  1. Know your ending. Where do you want this story to take you? What is your goal?

  2. Be honest about who you are. Quit hiding your greatness and start showing up.

  3. Care. Find something you care about. If your story is going to be compelling, you gotta care. So — do you care? And how would I know you care, if I were listening to your story?
