Your life is too full. But what can you eliminate when all you really know is, “Somethings gotta give?”

somethings gotta give

What can you take off your plate?

“I have no idea,”you might say. And it’s true: at the moment, it’s hard to see what could possibly be removed from your busy life, because everything feels so inextricably intertwined, and everything feels both important and urgent.

And it’s so loud. Partly, because the world you live in is so physcailly loud. But what really keeps you from seeing your obstacles and openings clearly are your Negative Unconscious Thoughts.

NUTs are so noisy! They demand your attention, even though you might not even be able to name what they are.

Name your NUTs.

In your busy life, your NUTs might include:

  • If I don’t do it, it won’t get done.
  • If they found out what I’m actually doing (or not doing), I might get in trouble.
  • I can’t even think straight right now.

And this is only a small sampling of the many negative voices in your head right now. And part of the problem is that there are so many voices crying out for attention, that you can’t hear any of them clearly. All you can hear is the refrain: “Somethings gotta give.”

Still, it’s worth your effort to try.

Writing is free.

One of the best ways to grab your NUTs is to grab a piece of paper and write. Specifically, Free Write.

Free writing is the kind of writing where you don’t try too hard to write eloquently. You just write. Get that pen moving on the page.

You could start with anything. Literally, anything. You could grab that sheet of paper and write, “Wow, look at that blue sky.” And The Scribbler up there in your head will begin to engage and focus your thoughts. You might go from “Look at that blue sky,” to “I’m so trapped in this stupid office,” and there you have one of your NUTs out on the table, where you can work with it.

Where do I begin?

Get out that paper and write something. When something appears on the page, either work with it yourself, or contact me and I’ll jump in with you to get something off your plate.
