Why do you keep beating around the bush? Do you have any evidence that there is anything wrong with saying what you want? Probably not. So why not go for it?
Why not just say it?
There’s something you want. But you’re not saying what it is, for some reason. Why is that? Is it because you associate asking for what you want with being an asshole? Or is it that you are afraid to say it because you might jinx your chances of getting what you really want? Whatever the reason, just go ahead and say what you want, out loud. Otherwise, you’re just lying about it, quietly.
Stop lying to yourself and others.
And if someone were to call you a liar, you’d probably take offense. But think about it: if you’re hiding the truth, aren’t you lying? But you can change your lying ways today. And it’s going to take a little effort on your part, but it’s not as hard to make the change as you might think. Here’s how it works: say what you want, and then get ready for resistance. Because it won’t be easy. But you and most of the people around you will be better off if you go for it.
Here’s why.
And you’ll need to know a reason why, if you’re going to get motivated to make a change like this. So here’s why: you’re wasting your life, and depriving others of your best self. Which means you’re cheating everybody by living a small, safe life. Because the most beautiful thing in the world is a man fully alive. But you are far from that today, and will continue to be a walking corpse until you take a few risks and step out into the life you’ve been dying to live. Is there anything wrong with that?
Don’t wait: start today.
So please: quit kidding yourself. Stop playing it safe. And here’s how to start: think for a moment (yes, actually stop for a moment and think) about what kind of lies you might be telling yourself and others. Because there are two major categories, when it comes to lying. The first kind is to overestimate your abilities (posing). And the second kind is to underestimate your abilities (false humility). And here’s the challenge: and it’s simple — humility. Because remember that humility is just telling the truth; being honest about yourself. What do you love? What do you hate? Start there, and you will find yourself getting closer to the truth.
