You say you want a deeper connection. But — can you hear what I’m saying? This is what people are wondering. Because remember: no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. And the best way to show someone you care is to hear what they say. Here’s how.
You’ve been saying for awhile now that you want a deeper connection. And not only a deeper connection with others. Because the truth is, you also want to feel a deeper connection with yourself. In other words, you want to feel more alive. Otherwise, life becomes an endless series of blah blah blah. But what are you doing to change your situation?
Here’s the problem.
The problem is that you’re not listening. So think about it. Because what happens is you get up in the morning and you turn on the bad news on your news feed. And you think you’re listening. But you’re not actually listening. Because what you’re actually doing is feeding your fear and anger. And that’s how your day begins. You’re looking for someone to side with or someone to fight against. And looking for a fight is not the same as listening. In fact, if you’ve ever been in a fight, you know that the first thing to go is your hearing. Because you stop gathering information and focus on winning the battle.
Did you hear that?
Because until you hear the fact that you’re not listening, you’ll continue to be disconnected from yourself and from others. But are you willing to admit it? Because there’s no point in reading further until you’re ready to admit to yourself the fact that you need to make a change in this area. So ask yourself right now: Am I willing to learn to listen?
If so, take one small step right now.
If you’re willing, here’s a step in the right direction. Because every journey begins with a single step. And this one small step is to listen intentionally. And yes. Whenever you commit to making a significant change in your life, you will meet with resistance. But give yourself 10 more minutes, sit back, and listen to this brief talk on how on listening.
What did you hear?
As you listened to the talk, what did you hear? What was your top takeaway?
Remember: everything essential must be easy.
And here’s what to do with what you just heard — or with what you will hear if you need to listen again. Apply what you learned today. Because confidence comes with repetition. So once you know what you want, you’re going to want to do it again and again. So — what one thing that you just heard will you apply today?
